Greetings! Just an update, as of tomorrow, enrollment is now up to 6 students; doubling the original enrollment. There has also been rather extensive interest in enrollment for next year with inquiries coming from the Macomb area as well.

I would like to address one issue that was raised here, and has been repeated elsewhere as well. While I have no doubt that a large portion of those that attended the very first informational meeting were indeed spurred by the closure of RES, Matthew I can assure you that for those of directly involved with the school, that was NOT a driving factor in our decision to see RCCS open. For us, this was simply a matter of choice; being able to provide an educational experience more attuned to traditional values and able to provide much more of an individualized learning experience with one-on-one instruction being the norm as opposed to the exception. I too share your conviction that a viable quality public educational system is vital to the needs of a community, and will always be the educational vehicle for the majority of families. For those who prefer something different however, we would like to think that we provide an option that bridges the gap between traditional public school and home schooling.

My apologies for not commenting earlier; this is actually the first time I stumbled upon this posting.

Comments and suggestions are always welcomed; most of you know how to get in touch with me already, and the official RCCS website should be online very shortly.

Thanks to all in the ocmmunity for your support, it is greatly appreciated. Be sure to attend our Open House to be held at the school from 3:30 - 7:30 on April 28th.

I appreciate your input, Matt. I recognize that the RA has previously covered the AfterDark opening, but, IMO, the actual opening of the club was worth at least a mention somewhere. Perhaps that's redundant.

Regarding the research farm, I see that the article ran again in the "Farmer's Forecast" special edition pull-out distributed with the 3/22 print edition of the RA.

Matt, this is Matt Hutton, editor of the Daily Review Atlas. I appreciate your blog and normally your kind comments about the work we do. I saw this post and just wanted to respond. The AfterDark club story I have covered several times, and the piece run in the Galesburg Register-Mail was a rerun of a story I had done much earlier on the club. As for the research farm, there's an open house at the end of the month at the facility I'm planning to go out and cover. It's just a matter of timing about when things have run in our sister papers, not that we didn't deem them newsworthy.

Thanks for commenting, Steve. I couldn't keep up with the comments to Bulkeley's article because the thread was taken over by Russ Kilby and LA Woman ranting at each other. That seems to happen with every politically oriented article or editorial at the R-M. They both occasionally make intelligent comments, but I get sick of their constant & repetitive bickering.
